Ebony Maw, like the rest of the Black Order, was a native of a planet destroyed by Thanos in his quest to wipe out half the universe. Thanos took the orphaned Maw and raised him as his own child, training him to be a deadly member of the Black Order.
THOR STOMPS! As powerful as Ebony Maw is, his durability isn't that great. The only reason he was able to stop Thor at the start of Infinity War was due to Thor being severly injured and even then he has no way of killing Thor! A city exploding on Thor didn't even scratch him.
